Guest Feature: Amber

I am increasingly inspired and a little blown away by our guests. The notes they leave in our guest books often bring me to tears. Amber’s did.

She came alone, in October, to one of our smallest cottages — Cozy Cactus. Three nights. Booked it last-minute. I never met her in person; we exchanged a few quick texts about the gate code and the grocery store. I assumed she was here for a hike.

When she left, the house was almost preternaturally tidy. The bed was stripped exactly the way we ask. There was a small jar of wildflowers on the kitchen counter — the kind that grow in the ditch on the way in. And there was a note in the guest book.

I came here to figure out what I was going to do with the next year of my life. I left having figured out maybe one thing. That is plenty. — Amber, Cozy Cactus, October

Why we share these

Because they remind us what the property is for. Not the booking flow, not the photos, not even the floats. The point is the slightly altered version of yourself you might walk back into your life as. We are honored to host that, again and again. Thank you, Amber.

Our houses are artist-curated. The Mangonada Bus was once a cross-country interactive art piece. The artist-in-residence program is the next chapter — and Erika is its first one.
